01/09/2006: "When insane is a good thing to be."

I must say, Bobby is growing into a fine young man. And while I do say that I think it would be so awesome if he still lived in the nebighorhood here, I think it might actually be a good thing he got away from the quote unquote bad element around here. Basically I'm refering to everyone except like...Chris, Mike, Rachel, Krystle, and myself. And Chris I'm tempted to take off that list, but I realize that odds are that if Bobby stayed he might have been more like Chris then he is, and that Chris really isn't a bad kid. Or I could be speaking out of my ass as someone who's lived here the shortest and doesn't observe these people enough to make to valid of an anaylasis.

Still, my point is that the rest of the people (and by people you can take it as the people who are able to be described by my comming...description) live, or are trying to live, a thug life. I still hold fast that living a thug life is not possible in this area. I think there's only 3 things you could validly be, and two that are possible but really unlikley:

1) A hardworking person who came from the city because they didn't like the overpopulation and were tired of the humdrum life
2) A farmer
3) A punk

A) A kinda hardworking person with a lot of money who one day said, "hey, I have a lot of money, I don't have to take this shit!" and moved up here to make them feel like upperclass snobs
B) A geek who thinks they can modernize the whole area and bring all the key parts of a busy city with them and make all of the people who moved here to get away from the city leave their turf.

Now, my parents are 1's, as are some other people I've met. A whole lot of people are 2's. I find myself a 3 along with tons of other kids. I think I've found a few A's who piss me off, and I've never heard of a B, but I think that would be an awesome setup for an ironic novel. Since I'm mainly focusing on young people here, I'm going to ask that you ignore all but 3 and anyothers I come up with and decide are importaint enough to mention.

To show why I don't think thugs can really exist but the punk kids can, let's try to break down the make up of thugs and punks.

Note: I find that many of the things people can be they can be regardless of location (even though it may rely on other factors i.e. prep-money, jock-genetic makeup, geek-social experience, emo-chemical imballance) and while punks are also one of these things, I think it will prove the best thing to use in a comparision.

Now, a thug usually forms in low income areas of major cities. Why? Becuase they are being ecconomically (and quite possibly physically) opressed and so the thought occurs, "We're being fucked over, so let's reject the system that is failing us and make our own subculture that is run on a seperate set of rules and will allow us to progress in that society!" (Of course, this may actually come out more like, "Man, fuck this shit and fuck the man. I'm buyin' a gat and gettin' some respect!" because in low income areas the schooling systems are generally subpar). This is not to claim that oppresed poor ingnorant vilolent upbringings will form only thugs, but to say that thugs are only formed from opressed poor ignorant violent upbringings. In our area, we have schools that are really good ones (wether we know it or not), the houses around here are suprisingly expensive so money must be had to be spent (on a long term investment, rather then, let's say, a bitchin' set of spinner rims), we still have some violence because it's a sad part of nature but it's totally not people gunning each other down in the middle of the street every day, and we're removed enough from most of civilization that there is no one here to do any opressing.

Similarlly, a punk is someone who is unhappy with their situation and takes steps to change it. However, the motovating factor for a punk is restlessness, and they are really fighting against being bored, because even if it takes the form of fighting sociey, it could just as well take the form of starting a band ,or, going to Wal*Mart and buying all the lobsters and walking them around the store on dog leashes. If you live out here, then you know that without a car life can be mindnumbing a bit, and so people do things to liven up life. And when you do get a car, then you may become less of a punk beause you are open and able to focus on a goal with less impedence, or you may just drive the fuck back to civilization.

Basically my point is that I've never seen a real thug tip a cow.

Disclaimer: I write to be funny and a smartass more then anything else. If you find something I say to be wrong, I'll be glad to take a correction into consideration and make a revised argument at a later date, but if you take me serriously and become offended and can't find a better use of time then to get pissed off at me while not fixing anything, then fuck you. (P.S. :D)

Tomarrow: I've seen too many movies.
