Yes, so I would like to imagine that I am the creater and origional conceiver of the "Q&A" theory of depresion and satisfaction.
It's kinda a simple theory that says that eveyone has questions in their concious and subconcious. These can range from "Why are we here?" and "What is the meaning of life?" to "Why does nobody like me?" and "why is it so hard to get up in the morning?".
All these questions are present, and we are motovated by a drive to find answers to these questions. When questions we have are answered, we get a feeling of satisfaction and completion, and the answer will either be stored away in memory and experience, or it might open up new questions which will be the new ones we strive to answer. In the event that a question remains unanswered, we become emotionally turbulent, depresed, angry, unhappy, and are basically unsatisified and distraught.
We look for answers to these questions thruogh many channels. Science, religion, and socialization are the major ones. Religion is a simple way of answering these questions because it offers a simple answer that's allready been created, and has no real way of being checked.
"Why are we here?"
"God made us and put us here, and we're here to serve him."
"Who or what is God?"
"God is the all knowing intangible being that watches over us."
"How do we know that God is really there?"
"We need to have faith."
"Oh."
And thus is esentially how the argument for religion goes. This is all well in good, but for some this does not adequately answer their questions, and thus they turn to more advanced measures of question answering, like science. Now, while sciene doesn't have all the answers, the answers they do have are actually able to be proven, and are much more extensive then what religion has to offer. Also, while it can't answer some of the intangible questions like "Why are we here?" it has managed to answer a majority of the physical questions with such explanations like "Nobody likes you because they don't respond well to how you act outwardly because that outward appearance is based off of your own internal apraisal of yourself." and "Because the matress is so comfy that you definately perfer it over the pain and labor of actually standing vertical, fighting gravity, and walking around to find your socks."
Again, while this does leave a majority of the major questions unanswered, the abundance to the rest of the answers has allready given an enormous amout of satisfaction to the person, and having those answers takes away enough hopelessness that they can have faith that those answers will be filled one day, and that combination could even give way to the worry of those questions beig neglible in daily life and thought.
Yeah, I know this has turned into another science versus religon rants, but I'm looking for some of my own answers here, and logic happens to be my tool. Besides, if this goes on to be accepted by the psychology community, I might just be in the running for the nobel peace prize this time next year :P.
Also keep in mind, I'd like to add more to this but in my current hyped up sugar rush state I don't think I can really think of and record all of the thoughts at once. I'm typing faster then I've ever been before. I'd be better of just smashing in my brains...No wait, that's the wrong song...
F*R*A*G: Yeah, there's a fire. It started after we came back in from the drill tho...
